The Artificial Limb Center (ALC), a flagship programme of the Rotary Club of Karachi, operates from the Rotary Centre in Gulistan-e-Johar, providing comprehensive rehabilitation and support to individuals with limb loss. This month, the Centre had the honour of hosting a distinguished delegation of Rotarians during the visit of Rotary International Director Jennifer A. Scott from Australia and Dr. Mildred Vintangcol, District Governor (2022–23), from the Philippines.
In addition to touring the Centre, the delegation met three remarkable young children who are part of the ALC’s education programme. Beyond prosthetic care, the Centre sponsors the education of 20 children, covering their tuition, transportation, books, and uniforms. The children also participate in monthly art therapy sessions conducted by Salma Habib, while the Centre is expanding its holistic support programme to include in-house psychological counselling by Farris Mughal and confidence and character-building workshops facilitated by Adnan Tariq.
The children featured in the photograph—Kinza, Rida, and Aliyan—have been visiting the Centre since they were just two or three years old. Each has faced the life-changing experience of losing a limb, yet each continues to demonstrate extraordinary courage, resilience, and determination. For them, the Centre is far more than a place for rehabilitation; it is a source of hope, belonging, opportunity, and encouragement, empowering them to build brighter futures with confidence.
